A graduate of Nipissing University’s Fine Arts program, Geoff Mayne has begun his artistic practice in his hometown. Born in North Bay, Ontario, Mayne was raised in the community, having lived, worked and graduated in this city. He currently has work at local galleries, 150 West, and Art on Main, both located downtown. His studio is not far from the galleries which represent him, and can often be found at either.
Mayne has been focused on producing art since graduating. His primary medium remains acrylic on canvas, and though known for portraiture, he often works with the Northern Ontario landscape in many of his paintings. He will sometimes accompany his father on trips to Temagami or Algonquin park to canoe the routes and appreciate the heart of Northern Ontario. Many of Geoff’s landscape work is reference to his father’s photography, distorting photographs into colourful, surreal scenes.
